If this college thing isn't great, at least Uncle sam Pays me for it

I signed up for the fall semster at San Bernardino Valley College last night. I had to pick an associates degree in order to get paid for GI bill. I picked Administration of Law. Which is interesting as I would have rather picked something business related, but that wasn't available. On another level thats funny because I for see myself taking a lot of Spanish. My goal is to get a 4 year degree and possibly move on to Law School.

My fear is that I still don't know what I really want to do for a career, but I want to get paid and Lawyers make decent money. My logic is that most people don't like thier job, so maybe if I go into a field that gets paid more than the average I can put money towards side ventures,ie realistate, my own business/practice or evil.

Also even county lawyers don't work more than 40 hrs a week. Thanks to the Governator cutting funding to programs such as mine, We all have plenty of overtime opportunities. I don't see the logic, We had to lay off a bunch of caseworkers (I only still have a job because I was in Iraq and by law they couldn't lay me off), so now we do less appointments per day, so we work more days. I am going in on Saturday from 8-12 to try to do appointments as well as mail vouchers to my clients that donot have transportation.

Because of a lack of caseworkers and lessened ability to see clients in a timely manner, we have a lower caseload and if that stays the way it is, we loose more funding. Its a down ward spiral.

The biggest stupidity of this thing, is that my program SAVES THE GOVERNMENT AND TAX PAYERS A TON OF MONEY, for every dollar you put into WIC (prevention) you save 3 dollars in medicare costs (treatment).

However, the governor made it an order that state funded animal shelters would hold animals for 2 less days before putting them down, and there was massive protests and civil disturbances in Sacramento. Which reinforces my belief that most animal rights groups don't so much love animals as they hate human beings.

In my state we spent $70,000 a year per inmate in prison, and California is 48th in the country as far as schools, we have some of the finest colleges. We issue drivers license to non citizens, and we give away welfare/cash aid like its cool. I get pissed off when I hear that people are collecting disability for drug habits, when I have to turn away people in need for lack of funding. I get extremely pissed when people collecting welfare have a nicer car than me.

however when my rage gets uncontrolable, I can still get marijuana to calm me down, but the Feds can still take me in on that.

I am working around 60 hrs this week, no one is making me, but I am trying to do something for someone, sometimes.

Also I joined a gym.

I'm really glad to hear that you've signed up for some classes, I think it'll be good for you, though I see no reason to not look into some other programs besides just Law. Maybe you're a really good potter. And heck, if you're not paying out of pocket (though you've paid in other ways) enjoy it. Sorry about the job being bonkers, I'm sure it's boogling how insane the system is, but you're doing what you can and that's all you can do. I can speak for a fact that I know one animal rights activist who does loves animals a who hell of a lot more than humans. She lost faith in humanity years ago. Oh, and glad to hear about the gym, keep the body alive.
