The Broken Clockwork Soldier
I checked into The Basic School this week. I was assigned to a platoon and made the first squad leader. We finish checking in this coming week and then if all goes well I will be in 5th Platoon Alpha company. |
We had swim qual this week. I am qualified at the required level for ground officers. it wasn't nearly as hard as I recalled from Bootcamp, but all I remember from boot camp was being 115lbs and getting throw in the water with DI's screaming at us. Other Officer's kept asking me what it was like or what was coming up next, but at the time we weren't allowed to look around, so I don't have many more memories other than back of the head on the recruit in front of me.
I have been fairly busy, I tend to be up and moving by 0445 every day. I spend so much time making sure my squad is doing what they need do, I get a bit behind on my own stuff.
In other news, on a more emotional level, I am having lots of the same feelings that I had as an 18 year old Private. The wierd combination of no privacy yet knawing loneliness. The world has changed alot in the last ten years. I don't have to wait in line at a phone booth inorder to call home. I have a cell phone and someone to call this time around. I also have the added stress of not being paid yet. I have the cash in my wallet and that is it. We are not supposed to get a paycheck till the 15th of November, yet we are required to go out and buy all kinds of stuff. Also we pay out of pocket for food. We are trying to get an advance pay and that would take a load off.
That is what is different from the School of Infantry, I only made 200 bucks a paycheck but it always seemed like I had money, also everything was provided for us and it was free to eat at the chow hall.
I have to say that people are much nicer here, My fellow officers are all pretty friendly and we haven't gotten screamed at yet. I am making new friends.
To sum up, nothing unusual to report at this time.
